(2018-2023) The project improved 40 acres of oak woodland and savanna habitat structure, function, native species diversity, and connectivity on two private properties within the Spencer and Coyote creek subwatersheds of the Long Tom Watershed. The project also enhanced native shrub diversity and reduced invasive species along a tributary of Coyote Creek. The properties are within the Oregon Conservation Strategy West Eugene Conservation Opportunity Area and the West Eugene-Spencer Creek Willamette Valley Synthesis Area. Beyond the conservation value, the project provided a significant opportunity to network with a broad array of community partners and neighbors, and to mutually learn how to improve oak restoration best management practices through biochar and targeted grazing. The momentum built through the project continues to carry on through shared learning, refining best management practices, and future project developments in the Coyote and Spencer Creek subbasins.
