Learn about groundwater’s relationship to stream flow and well water in the Long Tom Watershed
November 17th’s public meeting will feature a pair of fascinating presentations on groundwater. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about where water comes from in the Long Tom River and how groundwater influences our local watershed. You’ll also learn about the regional Groundwater Management Area and resources for property owners interested in learning about their well water and having their wells tested. There will even be an opportunity to test your well water at the meeting!
This is part one of a theme we’re calling “Farms, Fish & Flow.” Over the next year or so, we’ll share information and data at 1-2 other public meetings on the sources of water in the Long Tom Watershed, how those sources contribute to flow, and how stream flow influences agriculture, native fish, aquatic wildlife, and drinking water.
Speakers:
Dennis Nelson, retired hydrogeologist
- Where the Long Tom’s water comes from, and how water moves in the watershed
- Findings from his research to measure regional groundwater’s contribution to stream flow in the Long Tom Watershed
- How groundwater impacts regions of the watershed differently, and what might that mean for your area?
Chrissy Lucas, OSU Extension’s Small Farms Education Program
- What is the Southern Willamette Groundwater Management Area, why was it formed, and what does it mean for property owners?
- What are nitrates, and how they impact groundwater and drinking wells
- Resources for folks interested in more information on groundwater and testing their private wells
Bring a 1/2 cup sample of your well water and Chrissy can test your water for nitrates
