We need your help tracking local cutthroat trout!
The Long Tom Watershed Council is looking for volunteers to help with our 4th season of the Cutthroat Trout
Migration Study.
**This project has closed as of 2015**
We’re tracking the seasonal migration of cutthroat trout in the watershed. Data loggers record where and when tagged fish swim by. This information will help us understand when and where trout move and allows us to prioritize restoration efforts to benefit these fish and their habitat. Volunteers are trained to tag trout with PIT tags (like microchips for pets) into live fish. Over 75 volunteers have helped with this study the past three years and have enjoyed the experience immensely. Become part of the team!
Volunteers will: Work in teams to check traps, tag fish, gather data, and release fish back into stream.
Scheduling:
- Sign up for Mondays, Thursdays, or Saturdays
- Study runs from Oct through May
- Time commitment is 2 – 4 hours per trip; at least one trip every other week preferred.
- Those interested will be added to a schedule and asked to attend a training.
