Topic: Geologic history of the Long Tom Watershed and the events that have shaped it. You’ll learn about:

  • What this area likely looked like thousands of years ago
  • What geomorphic processes and major events (like the Missoula Floods and Mount Mazama eruption) shaped our region?
  • How those events have influenced the soil of the valley floor in places like the West Eugene Wetlands and Amazon Creek basin.
  • Likely evolution of the Long Tom River’s path over its history

Presenters:

  • Josh Roering, Dr. Roering is a professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Oregon
  • Karin Baitis, retired Soils Scientist from Eugene District Bureau of Land Management
