January 14 Work Party – Volunteers Needed

We need your help! Volunteers are needed to help LTWC harvest spirea limbs. We’ll be planting their live stakes at our riparian restoration projects. Douglas Spirea_flower clusterSpirea is a lovely native shrub with showy pink or rose colored flower clusters in the summer. Much like willows, spirea stakes help provide fast-growing habitat along restored stream banks, keeping soil in place and providing cover and shade for wildlife until other planted trees & shrubs have a chance to catch up.
WhenJanuary 14, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
What: Cut live spirea stakes using lopping shears.
Where: Meet at Council office at 9:30 a.m. to carpool.  We can also provide directions to the site near Veneta if it’s more convenient.
Bring: Rubber boots, warm clothes, rain gear, water, and a snack. We’ll provide all the tools, gloves, and training to ID spirea.
